What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural therapy which has been practised for more than four thousand years, originating from China and Egypt. It is founded on the belief that your feet and hands are a reflection of the systems in your body – where specific areas correspond to organs, glands and structure of the body. Applying gentle pressure to specific areas of the feet or hands can help the body restore its own healthy balance.

Reflexology aims to treat the individual as a whole, creating a state of harmony in both body and mind. Reflexology is a deeply relaxing therapy, and during periods of relaxation the body takes the opportunity to heal, restore and energise itself.

Reflexology is suitable for all, and some people find it helpful for long-term and recurring conditions. Benefits vary for each individual person. Reflexology does not diagnose and does not cure; it is a complementary therapy which can work as a supporting therapy to have alongside conventional medicine.

The Benefits of Reflexology

Relaxation

With busy lifestyles and daily stresses, reflexology is a soothing solution to regaining balance within the body. Stress has been linked to various ailments, by taking the time to relax and care for yourself, you can help to restore your body's harmony. Reflexology allows the body to enter a parasympathetic state, resulting in deep relaxation and release of tension.

Improved Mood

Reflexology can increase the body's production of endorphins and serotonin resulting in improved mood. A positive mood can have a massive impact on your health, relationships and your overall zest for life.

Wellbeing

Whilst reflexology should not be seen as a cure, it can be used to help manage a number of health concerns as a supporting therapy to conventional medicine. By assisting the body to reach a parasympathetic state, it has the opportunity to heal itself; promoting overall wellbeing and can be a tool for aiding sleep.
